🍾Champagne Bruyen: Six Generations of Exceptional Meunier

A story of heritage, passion, and the artistry behind one of Champagne’s most promising small growers.
Champagne is filled with stories — but few are as human, humble, and bold as the Bruyen family’s. At Rouge & Co. London, we are always searching for producers who bring authenticity, emotion, and craftsmanship to every bottle. Champagne Bruyen is one of those rare discoveries.
Their wines are not made for mass production;
They are made for people. For moments. For emotion.
And above all, they are made with a philosophy that aligns perfectly with ours: produce less, but produce better.

A Family Story That Begins in 1850
The Bruyen adventure began in 1850, when the family first started cultivating vines in Passy-Grigny, a village in the Marne Valley deeply rooted in the culture of Pinot Meunier.
By 1920, with no buyers for their grapes, the family decided to take a courageous step: they would craft their own Champagne.
Just before World War II, Odette and Jean Bruyen made a decision that would become family legend. As tanks approached, they buried their annual production in the garden to save it. When peace returned in 1945, the couple dug up 800 bottles, loaded them into a bicycle basket, and cycled 120 km from Reims to Paris to share their Champagne with the Guinguettes — the joyful open-air bars that lined the Seine.
These places were all about dance, music, laughter, friendship, and simple pleasures — a perfect match for the soul of Bruyen Champagne.
Today, the iconic bicycle remains the symbol of the estate, proudly displayed on every label as a tribute to this courage and tradition

Six Generations, One Vision
After decades of family work, the estate is now led by Grégory Bruyen, the sixth generation. His journey reflects dedication and passion:
  • A year at Taittinger, working in the press centre and bottling line
  • Five years managing 100 hectares in the Verneuil cooperative
  • Five years as store manager at CSGV Dormans
  • Ten years patiently building his vineyard hectare by hectare
  • Studies in Avize, specialising in wine & oenology
  • In 2018, he took over the family vines and launched his own brand, Bruyen
  • In 2021, he inherited the vineyards of his father, Patrick Bruyen
Today, Bruyen farms 8 hectares as a Récoltant-Manipulant, meaning the family controls every step — from vineyard to bottle. Production is intentionally small at under 20,000 bottles per year, with a maximum future capacity of 60,000.
This is Champagne at human scale.

Why Rouge & Co. London Chose Champagne Bruyen
At Rouge & Co., we don’t select wines based on the size of a producer, the prestige of the brand, or trend-driven labels. We look for character, value, integrity, and wines that deliver a genuine emotional experience.
Champagne Bruyen offers:
  • Sustainable, thoughtful winemaking
  • Handcrafted cuvĂ©es with depth and precision
  • Limited production
  • A rich family story with authenticity and soul
  • Exceptional value for quality
This is the kind of Champagne we want to drink ourselves — and the kind we are proud to bring to the UK.

A Champagne House Rooted in Emotion, Craft & History
From bottles buried in wartime gardens to bicycles pedalling towards Paris, from generations of vineyard work to the modern vision of Grégory Bruyen — this is more than Champagne.
It’s heritage. It’s craftsmanship. It’s the French art of living.
And now, it’s part of Rouge & Co. London’s curated collection.
