Adega Terras Mancas: Reviving a Medieval Winemaking Legacy

Imagine a yellowed parchment, safeguarded in the depths of the National Historical Archive in Madrid, catalogued as reference 1523/18. On it, words traced in centuries-old ink whisper of an ancestral pact:
“Señor Lorenzo is bound to plant vines on that land, to build a winepress within three years, and to deliver half of the wine each year to the monastery…”
What began as a feudal duty in the 13th century became something far greater: the birth of a winemaking legacy between Galician soil and Benedictine tradition. The monks of Oseira had already been cultivating these lands since 1249, shaping the terraces of Bocarribeira and the slopes of Trasalba in the Val do Miño.
Eight centuries later, that legacy lives on. And today, we at Rouge & Co. London are proud to welcome Adega Terras Mancas as our newest producer.

Where History Meets the Vine
Time has polished the stones of the ancient presses, but it has not erased their essence. In Amoeiro, Ourense, the vineyards of Adega Terras Mancas flourish on ten hectares of sacred land where the Miño River and its tributaries breathe freshness into the Atlantic terroir.
Here, Albariño, Godello, Treixadura, and Loureira thrive under sustainable viticulture. Each variety tells its own story:
  • Albariño – elegant, with aromas of sea breeze and citrus.
  • Godello – mineral and profound, like a secret kept in stone.
  • Treixadura – lively and floral, full of character.
  • Loureira – subtle, ethereal, like poetry in a glass.
Terras Mancas Blanco – A Tribute in a Bottle
From these grapes comes the Terras Mancas Blanco, a coupage that bridges past and present:
  • 42% Albariño
  • 34% Treixadura
  • 18% Godello
  • 6% Loureira
Hand-harvested in autumn and carefully fermented in stainless steel tanks, the result is a young white wine of remarkable freshness and balance. Notes of green apple, wild herbs, and a saline touch recall the riverbanks of the Miño. Its crisp acidity invites sip after sip—a modern echo of the tribute Señor Lorenzo once delivered to the priory.
This isn’t just wine. It’s history in a bottle. And with gold medals in competitions such as VinEspaña, it’s also a symbol of excellence that looks firmly to the future.

A Living Legacy
At Adega Terras Mancas, vines are not just cultivated—they are storytellers. Every glass carries the resilience of Galicia, the vision of the monks who once worked these lands, and the dedication of pioneers like Camilo Castiñeiras Boán, together with the brothers Jorge and Javier Pereira, who breathed new life into this ancient vineyard.

Why We’re Excited
At Rouge & Co. London, we choose producers who do more than make wine—they make history relevant again. Adega Terras Mancas embodies exactly that: heritage, authenticity, and a commitment to crafting wines that connect past and present.
We are thrilled to share their wines with you in the UK, starting with the Terras Mancas Blanco. It’s not just a new addition to our portfolio—it’s an invitation to experience centuries of Galician winemaking with every pour.
Terras Mancas has arrived. Are you ready to taste history?
