Winery Eitzinger: Third-Generation Craftsmanship from Kamptal

Introducing Winery Eitzinger
We are proud to introduce Winery Eitzinger as a newly added producer to the Rouge & Co. London portfolio. Family-owned and now in its third generation, this Kamptal estate represents exactly what we look for in a partner winery: authenticity, respect for origin, and a clear commitment to quality and sustainability.
At a time when wine trends change quickly, Winery Eitzinger follows a different path—one shaped by continuity and shared responsibility. Toni, Nadja, Marie, and Maximilian work together across generations, jointly developing the winery and making decisions as a family. Tradition is respected, but never static; proven knowledge is combined with fresh thinking to meet the realities of modern viticulture.
Responsibility in the Vineyard
Winemaking at Eitzinger is inseparable from responsibility. Each vintage presents new challenges that demand flexibility, observation, and respect for nature. Sustainable farming is not treated as a trend, but as a long-term commitment to the land and to future generations.
This philosophy is formally recognised through the “Sustainable Austria” certification, a nationally regulated quality seal for sustainable wine production. The certification evaluates ecological, economic, and social criteria across the entire production process—from vineyard work and energy use to fair working conditions and long-term business practices. Winery Eitzinger was independently audited by the certification body LACON.
Exceptional Vineyards Around Langenlois
The landscape surrounding Langenlois is defined by countless small vineyard parcels, forming a striking mosaic across the hills. Many of these vineyards carry historic names dating back to the 16th century, reflecting centuries of viticultural heritage. Today, these sites are essential for producing wines that clearly express their origin.
Winery Eitzinger works with a selection of renowned single vineyards, including Steinhaus, Bockshörndl, Schenkenbichl, Steinmassl, Fahnberg, Spiegel, and Dechant. Each site contributes distinct soil compositions, exposures, and microclimates, allowing the wines to articulate subtle differences from vineyard to vineyard.

Deep Underground: The Cellar Beneath the Sauberg
Beneath the loess soils of the Sauberg vineyard, in the Heiliger Graben site, lies the winery’s cellar. Here, modern precision meets traditional craftsmanship. White wines are predominantly fermented under controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, purity, and varietal definition. Reserve wines and red wines mature in wooden barrels of various sizes, allowing structure and depth to develop without overpowering the fruit.
The Taste of Kamptal and the DAC System
Kamptal is one of Austria’s most clearly defined wine regions and carries the DAC designation (Districtus Austriae Controllatus). This system protects regional identity by ensuring that wines labelled as Kamptal genuinely reflect their origin in terms of grape variety, style, and character—comparable to DOC in Italy, AOC in France, or DO in Spain.
Kamptal DAC follows a three-tier classification based on origin:
  • Region wines (Gebietswein) labelled Kamptal express the diversity of the region.
  • Village wines (Ortswein), such as Langenlois, reflect the character of a specific Village.
  • Single-vineyard wines (Riedenwein), such as Steinhaus, represent the most precise expression of origin.
The classification is clearly stated on the front label, offering clarity and transparency for the drinker.
Sparkling Wines from Zweigelt and Gelber Muskateller
While Kamptal is internationally known for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, the region also offers excellent conditions for grape varieties that excel in sparkling wine production. At Winery Eitzinger, Zweigelt and Gelber Muskateller are selected specifically for this purpose, with a clear stylistic intention.
Zweigelt is highly valued in Kamptal for rosé and sparkling wines. Its naturally vibrant acidity, moderate alcohol potential, and fine structure make it particularly well suited to sparkling styles. When harvested at the right moment, Zweigelt provides freshness, tension, and delicate red-fruit character without weight or heaviness.
Gelber Muskateller contributes aromatic clarity and lift, bringing floral notes, citrus zest, and fresh herbal nuances. Importantly, it retains aromatic intensity even at lower sugar levels, making it especially suitable for sparkling wines where finesse and freshness are prioritised.
Together, these two varieties form a natural partnership. Zweigelt provides structure and energy, while Gelber Muskateller adds aromatic precision. Grown in the vineyards around Langenlois, they benefit from Kamptal’s marked day–night temperature variation, which helps preserve acidity and aromatic purity—essential elements for high-quality sparkling wine.
A Rewarding Vintage and Wines Now Available
The 2025 vintage proved especially generous, rewarding careful vineyard work with balance, freshness, and clarity across the wines. It is a vintage that reflects both the conditions of the year and the estate’s attentive approach in vineyard and cellar.
We are delighted to welcome Winery Eitzinger to Rouge & Co. London and to make their wines available to buy as part of our carefully curated portfolio. This is a producer we are proud to represent—one that speaks clearly of place, family, and long-term commitment to quality.
